Dock 7 Budapest: boarding guide
Where Dock 7 is, how to reach it by tram or metro, when to arrive, which month gives which light and what to wear on the river.
Reserve your table on the river ↗Quick answer
Dock 7 is on the Pest embankment, Jane Haining rakpart, a short walk from Vörösmarty tér metro. Go down the stairs at Vigadó tér and look for the Legenda City Cruises sign. Arrive at least 20 minutes before the time on your confirmation. From October to late March the cruise leaves after dark, while in midsummer the first hour is still daylight. Dress for a good restaurant and bring a layer.
Where Dock 7 is
Dock 7 sits on Jane Haining rakpart, the Danube embankment on the Pest side, just below Vigadó tér. The operator's directions are short. From the Vörösmarty tér stop on the yellow metro line, walk to Vigadó tér, go down the stairs and cross at the traffic lights, then turn left and walk about 50 metres. Legenda signs mark the pier. The booking confirms the meeting point as Dock 7 and asks you to look for the Legenda City Cruises sign. The embankment here is part of the Danube promenade, and the Little Princess statue sits on its railings a short walk away, which makes a useful landmark if you are unsure which stretch of the quay you are on.
Tram, metro or on foot
Tram 2 runs along the Pest bank between Közvágóhíd and Jászai Mari tér and stops at Vigadó tér, a step from the pier. The same line passes the Parliament, so a ride in daylight shows you the building you will see from the water that night. The transit operator describes it as one of the most famous tram lines on the Danube bank, serving several World Heritage sights on a single ticket. The yellow metro line stops at Vörösmarty tér, a short walk away. If you drive, the operator notes a few parking spaces on the quay and says parking there is payable before 6 PM.
When to arrive and how boarding works
Your confirmation shows the departure time. The departure time moves with the season, and the booking calendar shows the exact time for your date. Two other Budapest cruises ask guests to arrive 15 to 30 minutes early and warn that late boarding cannot be promised, so treat 20 minutes as your minimum. Once aboard you are led to your table, handed a welcome drink and given the menu. If the time on your confirmation differs from the timetable, follow the confirmation, since it is the time for your booking.
Which month gives which light
Budapest keeps Central European Time, with summer time from late March to late October. Sunset in 2026 falls near 16:00 around 21 December, near 18:00 around 21 March and 11 October, near 18:45 around 21 September and near 20:45 around 21 June. A 19:00 departure from October to late March therefore leaves in the dark, with the whole cruise after sunset. September and April sit at dusk when you board. In midsummer you sail in the last daylight, and the skyline shows mostly in the final hour, so a summer evening gives you a golden first course and a lit last one, if the lights are on.
- October to late March: dark at departure, the whole cruise after sunset
- April and September: dusk at departure
- Late April to August: departure near sunset at the edges, an hour before it in midsummer
Will the buildings be lit?
The lighting on the Parliament, the bridges and the castle is decorative and decided by the city and the national government, not by the cruise. In early August 2026 Hungary switched off decorative lighting on the Parliament, Buda Castle and the Chain Bridge during a heatwave, to save power. Whether it is on for your date is not something a booking can promise, and other Budapest cruise pages state the same. Check recent news before you go. The river, the silhouettes and the music do not depend on it. If a lit Parliament is the reason you are booking, choose a date with that in mind and expect to take the risk.
Weather, decks and what to wear
Dress as you would for a good restaurant dinner, and add a layer for the river, which is cooler than the street. The operator describes a glass-covered panorama deck that can be removed in fair weather, so you may sit under glass or in the open air depending on the night. Two other Budapest dinner and drinks cruises state that they normally run in rain. Bring a jacket from autumn to spring, and keep sunglasses to hand for the first hour in midsummer. Flat shoes are a safer choice than heels on a boat deck, and a small bag is easier to keep under a chair than a large one.
Where you sit
You are led to a table when you board. The booking does not offer a choice of window tables, and some guests have asked for one. One guest on the top deck found the speaker distorted, while another praised the keyboard player and the singer. If the sound or the view matters, speak to the crew before the starter arrives and not after the main course. They are the people who know how the room is laid out that night, and a quiet word early is more likely to help than a complaint late.
What to leave at the hotel
Pets, luggage, large bags, electric wheelchairs and party groups are not allowed on board, and the cruise is not suitable for children under 3 or wheelchair users. If you arrive in Budapest the same day, drop suitcases at your hotel first. Carry only what fits under a chair: a phone with your confirmation, a jacket and a camera, since the windows retract for photographs. A phone charger is worth having if you plan to photograph the bridges, because a long evening of video drains a battery.
After the cruise
A 19:00 departure brings you back to Dock 7 at about 21:30, if the full two and a half hours run. Walk the promenade along the embankment, or catch tram 2, which runs the length of the Pest bank. The Vigadó, a concert hall designed by Frigyes Feszl in 1859, stands above the pier, and the Vörösmarty tér metro stop is the one you came from. If you would like a walk after dinner, the promenade runs along the embankment with the bridges in view, and the trams keep running along the same bank.
Arriving early: the promenade and the Vigadó
Twenty minutes in hand is a good excuse to stand on the embankment. The Danube promenade begins nearby, and the Little Princess statue, a bronze figure sitting on the railings, is a short walk away. Behind you the Vigadó stands over the square, and across the river Castle Hill fills the skyline. If the weather is fine, this is the best place to watch the light change before you board, and it costs nothing.
Who this isn't for
This guide does not suit you if you need a vegan menu, have a food allergy, are travelling with a child under 3 or want a promise that the skyline will be lit. The cruise is also not a quick drink: it runs two and a half hours, and dinner is the point of it. If you want something shorter, the drinks sail on the main page lasts 75 minutes.

It leaves in the evening, and the time moves with the season. The booking calendar and your confirmation show the exact time for your date.
